Door of a Masonic Lodge

About This Site

me at installation dinner - 2006

Hello, my name is Willis Nash and I've always been interested in the arcane and since many of the mysteries of Western Civilisation lie in Europe, I have coined the site's name as 'Eurarcanus'.

In the late 90's, I joined a Masonic Lodge and became an officer. The rise through the rotation begins with the Inner Guard, and continues through the Junior and Senior Deacons, the Junior and Senior Wardens, and finally the Worshipful Master. Freemasonry interested me mostly by gaining insight into the Fraternity, i.e. finding out what knowledge is imparted by the Craft and what kind of men support it. After installing my successor Worshipful Master, I resigned from my Lodge satisfied I had accomplished all I could or wanted.

Masons feel a connection with the Knights Templar. In 1128, their religious military order was born. To become a Templar, men had to pronounce 3 vows of obedience, chastity and poverty (meaning giving part of their wealth to the Order). The Templars protected pilgrims to the Holy Land and Latin States. They also set up banking methods to ensure funds for travellers through their journey with letters of credit. Because of their time spent in the oriental culture, the Templars were impregnated with the Jewish and Muslim religions. It is believed that had the king of France, Philippe Le Bel (who had permission from Pope Clement V) not coveted their wealth, and imprisoned, tortured, and killed them, Europe would now have a harmony among all three of the great faiths.

I love riding my old 1966 BMW motorcycle through France, where I shall continue to look for more Templar places like Chinon as well as Sheela na Gigs, those outrageous female stone figures which adorn mostly 12th century churches and castles which can be found in the U.K. and Ireland as well due to the Celtic influence which brought them there. I shall be adding more images of these 'ladies' in future, and if they intrigue you as much as me, bookmark this site.
